what a woman likes to hear

“Hey, Abbs, what’s wrong? You’re looking terrible… is everything all right?”, Tim was concerned when he saw his girlfriend shuffling into the kitchen languidly. “Ah, thanks, Tim, you can really be a gentleman… that’s exactly what a woman likes to hear.”, she sighed rolling her eyes, but obviously didn’t even have the energy to fight back more than that. “No, that’s not what I meant,”, he defended himself, “you’re always looking beautiful, you just seem to be… not really fit today. Are you sure everything’s all right?” Meanwhile he had stood up and put some water on to boil in order to make her some tea. “You’re looking paler than usual… if that’s even possible.” She smiled a wry smile and sat down at the table to have breakfast. “I’m okay, all right?”, she reassured him, however both of them were not sure she even believed that herself.
Tim went over to her and felt her forehead while the water was heating up. “No, you’re not, Abbs, you got a fever. Your skin is radiating with heat!”, the worried agent remarked. “But I’m fine, Timmy…”, his girlfriend protested, “I’m just sleepy… that’s all. One cup of coffee or a Caf!-Pow and I’ll be fine again, I promise.” Tim took the cup out of her hand demonstratively when she reached for the coffee. “Don’t make promises you can’t keep, Abbs, you belong to bed. I’m going to make you a tea and call you in sick for work, okay? And no arguments!”, he ordered. “You need to rest.” He kneeled down in front of her and looked at her softly, worry clear in his eyes. “Is there anything else I can do for you? Are you hungry?” She sighed and shook her head. “No, I’m just tired… I feel so exhausted. But I can’t be sick today, Timmy…”, she whined. “Yes, you can, it’s not your choice to decide, okay? When you’re sick you’re sick, there’s nothing you can do about it with saying ‘I don’t want to be sick’ or ‘I can’t be sick now’. You need to rest and relax and get better again, that’s all.”
He stood up to brew up the tea and then infused her a spoon of syrup for her throat as her voice was getting raspy, too. “Come… I’ll bring you to bed and give you some medicine, okay?”, he held out his held to her and guided her to the bedroom then, his arm wrapped around her shaking figure tightly. “Here, lie down… I’ll be back in a minute.”, he gently tugged the blanked around her before he went to fill the tea into big a thermos jug and close it tightly. Placing a cup of hot, steaming tea, the jug and another bottle of water on the night stand he ordered her to drink. Then he went to bathroom to get the clinical thermometer, some medicine and a dry towel.

Looking at her temperature he had taken he sighed. “And you really wanted to go to work like this?” She gave him a guilty look and he sighed again. “Here, take this.”, he administered her some liquid medicine, “I’m going to make you some cold calf packings to bring down your temperature, okay?”
Tim went to the bathroom again to wet some towels when he had placed the one he already brought under Abby’s lower legs to keep the bed dry and then wrapped the cold and damp ones around her calves carefully. Tugging her in again he softly whispered “Get better soon. I love you, Abby.” and placed a gentle kiss on her virtually glowing forehead. She smiled wryly. “I love you too, Timmy. And thank you.”
